Salman Khan defends Aamir in ‘3 Idiots’

A promotional event on Wednesday (January 6) for Salman Khan’s upcoming release ‘Veer’ turned into a promotion of the ‘3 Idiots’, with star Salman Khan ending up defending contemporary Aamir Khan and his film claiming it is the “biggest film of the decade”.

Salman, in his intimitable style, didn’t just praise Aamir’s film but also took on some of the controversies around it including the allegation that a ragging scene in the film was copied by senior students at a medical college in Mumbai. Eighteen students of Seth Medical College were arrested for ragging and released on bail on January 4.

“This film is anti-ragging and against suicide. There’s nothing original about the script that it will start a ragging or a suicide trend. I have heard that one student has committed suicide. My condolences to the parents but you can’t put it on to the film. Aamir is not the one who commits suicide in the film. It is from real life he has taken these things. And other films about college also represent ragging. And the censor board has given the film a certificate, isn’t that a government body?” he said, apparently on a mission to endorse his re-ignited friendship with Aamir.

Aamir has already denied that the film promoted ragging. “It is true that we have shown ragging in the movie. However, we oppose it and even the scene does not promote it,” he said recently.

A voluntary organisation working against ragging in India has recently complained to the Supreme Court appointed anti-ragging committee about the menace being glorified in Bollywood film ‘3 Idiots’.

“It is the biggest film of the decade, it has broken all records. Even my nieces have seen it three to four times,” Salman adding in conclusion, “Who is the biggest Veer? Well last week it was Aamir.”
