The name is Khan

Bollywood’s ‘bad boy’, has forever triggered rumours with his much publicised affairs, that have sent gossipmongers into overdrive. Often called the ‘brat’, not many know that the actor began his career by hanging around the sets of his then girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani, just so one of the directors would notice him and give him a break.

‘Sallu Bhai’, as he is called by his close friends, refused to use his dad’s clout to get him a break. And Khan stuck to his guns, being loyal to directors he worked with for the first time. No wonder then, that acclaimed directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Sooraj Barjatya have kept making films with him. Not to mention the magic they created together!

A fitness geek, (not freak to be precise) the hunky Khan’s dedication towards his exercise regimen evolutionised the concept of a sexy body, not just in the industry but also in the country. The actor supposedly sculpted his body by freehand exercises through rigorous years of practice. However, not many know that Khan also loves to read comics in his spare time.

Salman loves to touch base every once in a while. Actor Govinda, in the programme, recalls an occasion, when, while driving down to Khan’s house, he was stopped midway by someone shouting his name. Peeping out, he found a beaming Salman riding an auto rickshaw. The two then had a blast in their rickshaw ride through the city.

Zoom’s Bollywood Biographies explores these childlike facets of actor Salman Khan, even as it reveals his sensitive side. The mercurial Khan works at his own pace, as much for the cancer patients he supports, as for his films, leaving the hype and glamour very much behind him. And he takes both accolades and brickbats in his stride.

As actor Lara Dutta puts it in the show, “If he takes to you as a person, then you become family to him. He will do anything for you and treat you like you are a part of the Khan…daan”
